Patti Smith, Laurie Anderson, and Keanu Reeves will perform at the Tibet House US 35th annual benefit concert, Pitchfork reports.
The concert, curated by artistic director Philip Glass, will be held virtually on March 3rd, streaming on Mandolin for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fundraising concert will also include performances from Angélique Kidjo, Trey Anastasio, Margo Price, Tenzin Choegyal, the Fiery Furnaces, and others. Iggy Pop and New Order’s Bernard Sumner will also be featured as special guests. The virtual concert is timed with the Tibetan New Year celebration Losar, which is from March 3-5, 2022.
Since the announcement of his headlining performance at the Tibet House concert, Keanu Reeves has faced backlash from Chinese Nationalists for his support of the organization, with some calling for a boycott of his new latest film The Matrix Resurrections.
Tickets are available for purchase at Mandolin. All ticket proceeds will go to Tibet House US, an organization created in 1987 by request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The organization is “dedicated to preserving Tibet’s unique culture at a time when it is confronted with extinction on its own soil.”
