A Tibetan man is dead after self-immolating in Ngaba, eastern Tibet, on Friday afternoon. Tsering Phuntsok set himself ablaze in front of a Chinese police station in Kyungchu around 3:15 p.m. Friday. He died at the scene.
Phayul reports that Tsering Phuntsok is survived by a wife and two children. It’s uncertain what happened to his body –the Tibet Post reports that local Tibetans carried his body home before Chinese authorities could seize it, and more locals and monks from nearby Amchok Monastery gathered to say prayers over his body. Phayul says Chinese police took his body from the scene.
Tsering Phuntsok is the second Tibetan to self-immolate this year. Over 100 Tibetans have set themselves on fire to protest Chinese occupation since 2009.
