News reports from Tibet say that two more people have died after self-immolating in protest of China’s continued occupation of Tibet. Phayul.com reports that a 23-year-old woman, Tangzin Dolma, died after setting herself on fire in the Tsemo Region of Rebkong, Eastern Tibet. A large funeral is reportedly being planned for her.
Earlier on Thursday, Phayul also reported, an 18-year-old man named Kharbum Gyal died after self-immolating in Rongwo, also in Rebkong. He leaves behind his parents and six siblings. Other sources give his name as Karpongya and his age as only 14.
At least 74 Tibetans have self-immolated since 2009, with 12 immolations happening so far in November alone. The Chinese Communist Party began its congress last week, choosing Xi Jinping as the country’s new leader.
